Sammi the Blue Jay By: Katy Weis

Once upon a time there was a blue jay named Sammi. One day he thought, I want to fly. So he did. Sammi, it seemed, whatever he wanted, happened. Whether it was to fly, or get the most worms out of his 8 brothers, he always got what he wanted.
One day, his brothers (they were all younger) kept nagging him to play berry ball. Sammi got mad and stormed off. When he went to sleep that night, he wished he was the only blue jay in the world.
The next day he found the day unusually quiet. Where are my brothers? He thought. Must be playing berry ball. But when he got to the berry ball field, no one was there. He started panicking. Did they migrate? Did they not like him? He was worried because he had snapped at his brothers. That's it. They migrated without me. Sammi sighed and went back to his nest. He pulled back a leaf and everyone was there! "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" They called. They had berry ice cream and a walnut cake.
"Thank you. Now who wants to play berry ball?"
